With classes at Edinburgh Yoga Studios’ costing an average £12 a session, yoga has become a pastime for people with a high disposable income, which just doesn’t seem right!
Yoga classes at Tollcross Community Centre started in 2008 and have been running ever since. In August 2018 some of the classes relocated to Boroughmuir High School. My aim is to provide affordable drop in yoga class for everyone.
I believe yoga should be accessible to everyone and whilst I may not be able to offer a luxurious studio interior, you’ll find our environment is inclusive, non-intimidating, non-judgemental and in the winter, yes, you’ll find it’s a little bit drafty!!!
You will find us at Tollcross Community Centre ALP, the Community Wing is attached to Tollcross Primary School, Edinburgh, EH3 9QG and Boroughmuir High School, 111 Viewforth, Edinburgh, EH11 1FL
Classes run throughout the year and students are welcome to drop in to any of the sessions. The cost is £5 or £4 Student/Concession and no advance booking is necessary. Bring your mat and arrive five minutes before the class start time. There are some mats available to borrow should you need one.
There will be no classes running from 24th December 2018 to 6th January 2019. The first class in 2019 will be a Core Class on Monday 7th January 2019.

This class will bring awareness to your posture and the correct alignment of the body. Enabling you to develop an understanding of the yoga postures and breathing techniques with a view to strengthening, increasing cardiovascular development, gaining flexibility and aligning the body through time and practice. Variations are given to suit all levels.
Ashtanga General | Cancelled
Ashtanga is a specific sequence of postures linking breath and movement (vinyasa). Ashtanga is an athletic flow class combining strength, flexibility and stamina for a complete practice. Each class will consist sun salutations, a series of standing poses and then seated postures. An Ashtanga class traditionally ends with a finishing pose series including backbends, shoulderstand work, headstand variations and savasana (relaxation). This class will give you the opportunity to flow, breathe, and sweat! Variations are given to suit all levels
Yoga Motion | Tollcross, Gym Hall
This dynamic flowing power class will focus on strength in postures and is designed to build muscle tone and a strong, healthy, flexible body. This is a powerful and challenging class. This class is not suitable for beginners
Core Vinyasa | Boroughmur, Dance Studio
The focus in this class is on abdominal and core strength. Based on the principles of Ashtanga Yoga, this class will look at postures which will stretch, tone, flatten and strengthen the abdominal area. We will work to build confidence, flexibility and strength in preparation for arm and head balances. Variations are given to suit all levels. This class is not suitable for pregnancy.
